Q&A with Erik Stokkeland
CEO and co-founder @ Futurehome
What are your plans for the future?
Futurehome International is our next big plan after full scale roll-out in Norway.
Why did you become an entrepreneur?
I have been a techie since my childhood and after working for big companies I realised that I wanted to change the smart home industry and make a difference. Being an entrepreneur means that you are your own best critique and has to live up to very high standards in order to succeed. Sometimes this is hard and can be lonely however I welcome and embrace this challenge every day.
Aside from achieving commercial success, what do you see as your startup’s mission?
Smart home by Futurehome for everyone! Our mission is to have smart homes part of the everyday life as water kettles or televisions.
Describe your perfect day at work.
I run to the office and if the weather is nice have a short dip in the Akerselva to wake up the body and mind.:) I spend the morning having a short chat with the team about our sales goals for the day. After that I have local and international partners who I talk to on the phone or personally about the progress of our collaboration. Then soon it is lunchtime which I always try to spend with the team, it goes a long way! In the afternoon we mostly continue with internal meetings and long term planning. After work I run home and spend some more time on planning our strategy or just reading up on tech news. My role model is Elon Musk, I admire his enormous work capacity and I thrive to build our company based on his principles.
What is your best advice for entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
If plan A and B fails there are plenty more letters in the alphabet!Keep experimenting, keep iterating, that's how you get ahead.
