Summary of Role
Puppet is seeking an engineering manager to be a key part of the Puppet team delivering our products. You’ll be leading a diverse set of engineers to help keep our technology state of the art through our Open Source projects and commercial offerings. You’ll help manage, grow, and develop a team, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle not just our current challenges, but also things we’ve yet to start.
You’ll coordinate with a variety of groups within Puppet to help ensure that the engineering team can ship product quickly and with confidence. Our products form the backbone upon which our customers build their infrastructure and deploy their critical applications, and you’ll be helping make sure our products continue to delight users in all the ways typical enterprise software doesn’t!

Qualifications
- Excellent team-building and leadership skills. You understand how to take an existing team and make them work better as a group, and you know how to keep the team effective and functional as we add new people of varying backgrounds and experience..
- You understand the particulars of and differences between developing open source and commercial software.
- You have experience working with cross functional teams distributed across local and international time zones
- Track record of shipping high-quality software using agile or kanban principles.
- Obsessive follow-through; absolute inability to let a ball drop.
- Can spot looming process or personnel problems early enough so we can react appropriately.
- Familiarity with project management and issue tracking tools; helps ensure that we’re always using the best tools for the job.
- Drive for continuous improvement of processes within engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of development experience.
- Minimum 2 years of managing a team of developers.
- Bsc. in Computer Science or similar discipline..
- Requires logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Experience with containerisation ecosystem (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos) and/or Cloud providers (AWS, Azure), a plus
